Ruto’s Dares Rebel Jubilee MPs [Video]

A day after President Uhuru Kenyatta met with Mt Kenya leaders at Sagana State Lodge in Nyeri County, Deputy President William Ruto has asked rebel Jubilee Party to quit the outfit.

Ruto was speaking in Kipkelion, Kericho County on Saturday, argued that Uhuru gave a clear political direction that the Jubilee Party is united.

“Yesterday, His Excellency the President gave a clear direction….Those false prophets, those conmen that have been spreading news that Jubilee is stuck now have a clear direction from the Party leader that Jubilee is united”.

In reference to Jubilee MPs who campaigned for Orange Democratic Movement Candidate in the Kibra byelection Bernard Imran Okoth, Ruto asked dared them to exercise their democratic right and leave the Ruling Party.

“Those in Jubilee but are supporting other parties, can choose the path of democracy and join those other parties,” he said.

The hotly contested Kibra by-election escalated division in Jubilee Party with some of its members including Kirinyanga Governor Anne Waiguru and nominated MP Maina Kamanda campaigning for the ODM’s Okoth who emerged the winner.

Other notable Jubilee leaders who backed Okoth include Moses Kuria (Gatundu South) Fatuma Gedi (Wajir Woman Representative) and Rachel Shebesh (Youth and Gender Affairs Chief Administrative Secretary).

Wreaking Havoc

The Deputy President on Thursday accused ODM leader Raila Odinga of taking advantage of the handshake to wreak havoc in the Jubilee Party.

Ruto accused Raila, whom he christened the people’s conman of “using deceit to divide/destroy parties even Uhuru’s Jubilee” adding that he will “stand with Uhuru and Jubilee against such dictators”.

While both Uhuru and Ruto have stated that Jubilee is intact, their actions and those of its members state otherwise.

During the Sagana meeting, Mt Kenya leader allied to the Deputy President were missing on the list of speakers that spoke at the event.

Among notable political figures from the region who addressed the gathering and are openly opposed to Ruto’s 2022 Presidential include Ngunjiri Wambugu (Nyeri Town MP), Kiraitu Murungi (Meru Governor) and Former Nyeri Senator Mutahi Kagwe.
