How Taxi Driver Unravelled Murder of KDF Partner and Her Two Children

After weeks of investigations and subsequent arrest of her partner Major Peter Mugure, remains of Syombua Joyce and her children Shanice and Prince Michael were on Saturday found at Thingithu government burial site, Nanyuki.

Thingithu burial site, which is not far from the airbase where Major Mugure is based in Laikipia, is a graveside where the government lays to rest unclaimed bodies.

Detectives carry the remains of Joyce Syombua and her two children from Thingithu government burial site, Nanyuki.

The recent developments follow a series of events initiated by a multi-agency team led by DCI detectives in Nanyuki in attempts to unravel the whereabouts of Syombua and her childrens.

Until the arrest of Major Mugure on Friday, the case had proved a hard nut to crack with every lead proving unsuccessful.

However, when one taxi operator, allegedly weeks ago called by Major Mugure to deliver gunny sacks, saw the arrest of the KDF officer on Tv, that marked the beginning of a journey that led to the discovery of the bodies.

The taxi driver, yet to be identified, reportedly remembered when the KDF officer called him to ask for the delivery of the gunny sacks and suspected that perhaps he could offer a helping to DCI officers who were ostensibly losing the case.

The taxi driver reportedly went to the investigating officers and narrated his interaction with Major Mugure leading to the subsequent discovery of the bodies.

However, it is not yet clear whether the taxi operator is the one one who carried the bodies to the graveside.

According to the police, Syombua was strangled while her children were allegedly dragged before being hit with a blunt object to death.

The bodies were found inside the gunny sacks.

The taxi operator reportedly acknowledged that the sacks looked similar to the ones he delivered to Major Mugure.

The three were buried in a shallow grave with the two children lying on top of their mother.

The relationship between Syombua and Mugure was reportedly an on and off affair that had led them to court at some point.

The case lead to a DNA test that established the KDF officer was the father of Syombua’s children.

The test were carried in a bid to force the Major Mugure to provide for the needs of her children.

It is also reported that, that Major Mugure had once attempted to kill his children.
