St Mary High school treasurer who stole Sh14 million

A previous treasurer was on Thursday accused of 72 counts of swindling an organization of Sh14,040,820.

Sylvester Washiali was asserted to have faked the signature of Rosemary Adema, the principal of St Mary’s Girls High School on differing dates between December 22, 2016 and December 22, 2017.

Magistrate Bildad Ochieng’ heard that Washiali falsely got the money for 67 of the cheques at Kenya Commercial and Cooperative banks where the school has accounts.

The treasurer was suspended by the school’s board on December 30, 2017 over control and trust issues.

Adema visited the KCB branch on January 3 a year ago to report that Washiali was never again a record signatory yet later in the day, the treasurer showed up trying to money a school cheque. This provoked the branch director to caution the key.

After cautiously investigating the submitted check, bank authorities built up that the signature was fabricated. Washiali was arrested and later charged at the Mumias Law Court.

A review of the school accounts uncovered that the foundation had lost a large number of shillings. Ochieng’ requested that the issue be heard by four judges between May 13 and June 13
