The robbers in the streets have realized that the business people collect a lot of money daily. They have been their easy targets in the recent times.
The attacks are usually planned and executed in the late evening when they are doing the final sum of the total sales of the day.
Police are pursuing thugs who killed a hardware worker in a botched robbery in Majengo, Sabasaba area on Monday evening.
The worker was shot when thugs attacked N.A Issack Hardware staff who were on their way to bank Sh 2 million.
Eyewitnesses said the gunmen shot in the air to scare the workers ferrying the cash.
Police arrived at the scene on time and engaged the criminals in a shoot out and recovered the cash.
Mombasa police commandant Johnston Ipara said they have crucial intelligence in their possession and will arrest the thugs by Friday.
They dropped the cash and run away. Police recovered all the stolen amount,” Ipara said.
Police are also pursuing a gang of youths terrorising residents in Soweto area in Kisauni.
“As we talk, our officers are going on with investigations,” said Ipara of the Kisauni incidence where the gang killed a father of three on Sunday night.
