Arsene Wenger has opened up on his transfer business while in charge of Arsenal, joking that he made numerous bad signings during his two decades in North London. The Frenchman, who stepped down as Gunners boss at the end of last season, saw many faces comes and go in 22 years at the club.Wenger was famed for signing relatively unknown players and turning them into top-class talents during his early years with Arsenal, and the 68-year-old has picked out four in particular that stand out.

Asked by RTL to name his ‘proudest signing’, Wenger responded: “The ones I’m most proud of are the ones that cost little but turned out to be top class. [Kolo] Toure, [Thierry] Henry, [Sol] Campbell, [Nicolas] Anelka.”The worst? Oh there’s quite a lot! It’s a job which is complicated, measuring the worth of someone who joins your club. The key is to not be too stubborn and force the issue; realise the mistake and move on. Don’t be scared to make mistakes.”Wenger was appointed as Arsenal manager in October 1996 and took charge of 828 Premier League games
