Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Portal Welby allegedly refused to hug or shake hands with the Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni after his visit to State House on Friday.
Several reports have claimed that the 105th archbishop of Canterbury kept away from the physical contact out of fear of the coronavirus outbreak.
The archbishop had visited Uganda to officiate the consecration and enthronement of Bishop Samuel Stephen Kazimba Mugalu, the 9th Archbishop of the Church of Uganda in honor of Museveni’s invitation.
He also graced a luncheon at statehouse together with the outgoing Archbishop of Uganda Stanley Ntagali, diocesan bishops, clergymen, select parishioners, government officials, and dignitaries.
In regard to his visit to Uganda, the archbishop affirmed that it was a privilege to meet with the president and he urged believers to pray for peace in Uganda.
Although the minister of health in Uganda Dr Jane Ruth stated that there were no confirmed cases in Uganda as of 28th February 2020, she mentioned that there are some travelers who are still in isolation for follow up.
“Uganda has no confirmed case of COVID-19 as of 28th February 2020. However, to date 695 travelers, Chinese, Ugandans and others traveling back home have been isolated for purposes of follow up. Of these 488 are Chinese nationals, 64 other nationals while 143 are Ugandan citizens. 280 individuals have completed 14 days of self-isolation.” She stated
Ever since the coronavirus outbreak, nations have been keen to observe the guidelines issued by the World Health Organisation as a preventive measure.
