Ruto Abandoned by Allies as Raila Takes BBI Reggae to Maasai

In one of the first forays into what was formerly a Jubilee Party bastion, ODM leader Raila Odinga led the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) to the Maa community.

Marshalling former DP Ruto allies including Kajiado Governor Joseph ole Lenku and his Narok counterpart Samuel Tunai, Odinga convened a meeting to popularize the initiative.

Also in the forum were several legislators from the Maasai community, Environment Cabinet Secretary Keriako Tobiko, Migori Governor Okoth Obado and Samburu Deputy Governor Julius Leseeto.

In a statement, Odinga revealed that the Maasai community has been selectively excluded from the national debate in successive regimes and that this was their opportunity to canvass their issues.

The BBI rallies were halted following the demise of former President Daniel Moi upon which a planned rally in Makueni was postponed during the entire funeral service.

The BBI debate has had major casualties especially after President Kenyatta directed that all Cabinet Secretaries be valued based on their commitment to the initiative among other performance parameters.

Former Agriculture CS Mwangi Kiunjuri would be axed after he managed to bring together more than 50 Mt Kenya leaders in a meeting whose agenda was speculated as ‘frustrate the BBI.’

The Tanga Tanga wing of the Jubilee coalition has since laid plans to conduct parallel BBI rallies across the country with a view to making their ‘contributions count.’
