Manchester United Manager Opens Up On The Idea Behind Signing Odion Ighalo

Manchester United captured Odion Ighalo from Shanghai Shenhua in the last minute of the January transfer window and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revealed he is delighted to secure the services of the striker.

Ighalo signed for United on a short-term loan deal and Solskjaer believes the Nigerian will bring a different threat to the club. The Red Devils were keen to bring in a striker after Marcus Rashford was ruled out with a double stress fracture in his back.

The club was left short on attacking options having let Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku leave last summer.

United had made attempts to sign the likes of Edinson Cavani, Joshua King, and Krzysztof Piatek but deals failed to materialize with the club opting to bring in Ighalo in a last-minute swoop.

The Norwegian had made no secret of his desire to bring in another forward before the transfer window deadline and says Ighalo has the tools to make a big impact.

“Odion is an experienced player. He will come in and give us an option of a different type of center-forward for the short spell he’s staying with us,” he said.

“A great lad and very professional, he will make the most of his time here.”

The 30-year-old had made an impact in Watford jersey as he netted 33 goals in 82 appearances before his move to China.
