Forty-six people headed to BBI rally in Kitui narrowly escaped death after a bus they were travelling in was swept by floodwaters from River Waani, Makueni county.

A video has emerged online showing the stranded passengers sitting on the side of the bus that is not sunk. The raging waters of the flooded river won’t let them get across.

The people were headed to the BBI rally currently ongoing in Kitui.

The video has angered many Kenyans who are criticizing the Building Bridges Initiative and the politicians supporting it as they haven’t even built physical bridges that work.

“Signs that this BBI has no bridge. That’s why we in the Tangatanga we are not going to watch as citizens are being dubbed by power-hungry leaders. We will ensure the Initiative is all-inclusive and the focus is on empowering the people,” wrote Clinton Korir.

“The pple who attend this rallies shock me…. Si mtoe locust kwa shamba kwanza,” lamented Miriam Mbaika.

Others also criticized the driver of the bus for trying to cross the flooded river.

“Ujinga wa dereva kujaribu ushenzi na ujinga wa abiria kunyamaza,” said Mbarak Swaleh.
