Manchester City Coach Gives up on Title Race

Manchester City FC coach Pep Guardiola appears to have given up on the title chase following Friday night defeat to Wolves.

Despite taking a 2-0 lead the defending English Premier League champions suffered a 3-2 defeat at Molineux as Citizens completed a double over them. City were forced to battle for the better part of the match a man down after keeper Ederson was sent off in the 12th minute.

City now trail Liverpool by a whopping 14 points. The Reds also have a game in hand. Their match against West Ham had to be postponed due to their engagement at the club world cup in Qatar.

Speaking after the match Guardiola admitted that his side will now be fighting secure champions league football this season.

“We cannot prioritise the cup competitions because if so next season we might not be in Europe,” he said.

“We are used to being at the top and now we are far away so we have to adjust mentally to that. I said many times it is unrealistic to think about Liverpool; we need to think about Leicester.

“Now it is about trying to catch the second one. We had the chance to return to second but we remain third, ” he added.
