UoN Student Leader Pregnant for Sonko?, Ruto Vows Not to Pay for Weston Hotel Land & Govt Launches Form 1 Scholarships

Good morning,

We hope you had a great Jamhuri Day. The problem with having a holiday in midweek is that you wake up the following day feeling like it’s Monday. The only positive thing about today is it is Friday.

Lucky are the people who work in government offices because they will probably not be at work today. In fact, some have closed shop until 2020.

Elsewhere, Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has been on the receiving end of brutal social media trolls after being schooled on basic court procedures by Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti during the hearing of Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko’s case.

Though it was on a light note, Ogoti told Murkomen to get hold of a notice issued in a Machakos court because it would be of great help if he (Murkomen) wanted to practice in Kenyan courts.

Could this be the reason why President Uhuru Kenyatta lashed out at state officers like Murkomen and his Makueni counterpart, Mutula Kilonzo Junior, for representing graft suspects in court. Uhuru said this amounted to conflict of interest.

However, Uhuru didn’t have an issue when James Orengo represented Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu and Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong. Is it because Orengo understands the constitution better or is on the right side of politics?

Before attending Jamhuri Day celebrations, State House announced that Uhuru had extended the term of the BBI taskforce.

A local daily reported that farmers in Nyandarua have been forced to pour their milk over low prices and inaccessible roads. We hope the BBI report will solve their problems too.

Ruto: I Won’t Pay For Weston Hotel Land

A hotel associated with Deputy President William Ruto says it would be unjust to force it to compensate a State agency for land on which it sits as that would amount to paying twice for the same property.

This is in a response to a suit by Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) which wants Weston Hotel ordered to surrender the land along Nairobi’s Lang’ata Road after the National Land Commission (NLC) ruled the parcel was public land.
