Uhuru Sends Out Strong Warning After Killing of GSU Officers

Hours after 11 GSU officers lost their lives after their vehicle hit an improvised explosive device (IED) in Dadaab Garissa county, President Uhuru Kenyatta has sent out a strong warning to the Daadab attackers.

While mourning the fallen police officers, Uhuru, through the State House official Facebook page assured of action to apprehend the attackers.

“President Kenyatta mourns police officers killed in Daadab, assures of action to apprehend attackers. His Excellency the President last evening received the sad news of the 11 National Police Service Officers brutally killed in Daadab, Garissa County,” read part of the statement.

The president maintained the government was not going to tolerate any elements threatening the country’s security and stability adding that the same will not dampen Kenya’s spirit.

“The President sends a strong reminder to all misguided elements out to compromise the safety and security of Kenyans across the country that the Government and the people of Kenya will never succumb to their cowardly terrorist actions,” added the statement.

At the same time, the President assured the families of the departed Officers that the Government was going to support them during such a difficult period of mourning.

The Officers from the Harhar General Service Unit (GSU) Camp, on Saturday, lost their lives at Degow on the road between Liboi and Damajale close to the Kenya-Somalia border when their vehicle ran over an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) during a routine security patrol.

According to the Inspector General of Police, Hillary Mutyambai, the troop was on patrol along Damajale Harehare road at about 1730hrs when the accident happened.

“The National Police Service regrets to inform the public that NPS officers were on patrol along Damajale-Harehare Road near the Kenya-Somali border when their motor vehicle ran over an Improvised Explosive Device, unfortunately, we lost some officers and the vehicle they travelling in was severely damaged”, Mutyambai said.

A joint patrol of Kenya Defence Forces, Administration Police, Rescue and Bomb Disposal Unit and regular police have already been dispatched to the area to pursue the attackers.
