Vihiga County Governor Wilber Ottichilo has urged his county MCAs to use all public functions to defend him against his competitors, whom he accused of soiling his name ahead of the 2022 elections

The governor decided to walk the path after he was overwhelmed by competitors criticising his administration over what they claim as laxity in delivering services to the county residents.

This comes at a time when his predecessor, Moses Akaranga, has announced that he will be in the ballot in 2022. Akaranga, who wants to complete his 2013 projects, will be aiming to make a second comeback after being defeated in 2017.

Inside sources also reveal that Senator George Khaniri, together with Sabatia MP Alfred Agoi, are also aiming to succeed the first time governor although the two have not publicly declared their interests.

Khaniri and Agoi have both been on the front line criticising Ottichilo’s administration, which is viewed as a great threat to the governor since the two were part of Ottichilo’s strong campaign team in 2017.

Despite boasting of great achievements since he got into office, the governor besieged his Members of County Assembly to spread his development gospel to the county residents as one way of silencing his critics.

“MCAs are governor’s representatives in the grassroots. You should carry out your mandates with the seriousness it deserves by explaining to citizens all the goods and achievements my government has attained since 2017,” advised Ottichilo.

And as a way of enticing ward reps, the governor instructed all the county heads and CECs to look into the needs of the MCAs as one way of ensuring they deliver on their mandates.

“As a county government, we carry out our operations according to the law. It usually takes time before everything is brought to order and it is true there are some people out there who always lack patience,” he added.
