Mugabe who led Zimbabwe for more than 30 years since 1980 was ousted from power through a bloodless coup in November 2017.

Through a tweet, President Mnagangwa has described him as an icon of liberation a pan-Africanist who dedicated his life to the emancipation and empowerment of his people.
“Cde Mugabe was an icon of liberation, a pan-Africanist who dedicated his life to the emancipation and empowerment of his people. His contribution to the history of our nation and continent will never be forgotten. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” Mnagangwa stated.

Other leaders have continued to pour their heartfelt condolences to Mugabe’s family. Zimbabwe’s Chairperson for Parliamentary Portfolio Committee for Mines and Energy has described Mugabe as unique politician who stood out against black oppression.
Hate or love Mugabe, he’ll be missed. A unique politician & Pan-Africanist of the highest level. A man who stood up against black oppression fearlessly & struck fear in the hearts of many who tried to suppress black independence. Today is a dark day indeed…. pic.twitter.com/uSQ8n1pJAV
