Just a day after reports emerged that President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM party leader, Raila Odinga, were planning to lead countrywide tours to popularize recommendations by the Building Bridges Initiative task force, Kenyans took to the internet to express their views.
According to reports by Jubilee Secretary General, Raphael Tuju, and ODM Chairman, John Mbadi, the two leaders will lead countrywide tours in a bid to help Kenyans understand the BBI’s proposals, as well as give the direction the country would take based on the recommendations.
“I hope the two leaders will move around the country with the document, which says this is what we proposed and this is the direction the country should go, and this is what is going now to be reduced into a Bill,” Tuju divulged.
According to Mbadi, Uhuru and Odinga deliberately delayed their joint countrywide tours so to avoid the notion that the two were engaging in politics.
These reports, however, brushed most Kenyans the wrong way owing to the fact that most of them had already embraced Ekuru Aukot’s Punguza Mizigo Initiative.
Taking to different social media sites, most users accused the two leaders of trying to force a referendum based on BBI’s recommendations down their throats, without necessarily having Kenyans’ interests at heart.
They faulted the government of trying to heavily tax them (citizens) in order to get new leadership slots that could be created once the proposals are enacted.
“How do you plan for the joint rallies even before the BBI report is not out yet? Kenyans are not FOOLS. PUNGUZA MZIGO all the way you dynasties.” Posted one user Viva Madiba on Facebook.
Many rubbished the rallies noting that only Kenyans who will make the final decisions concerning the impending referendum. Here are some more bitter reactions from a section of Social Media users;

Think less, think better. It's time politicians start appreciating innovative thinking as illustrated in Punguza Mizigo Bill 2019. Some politicians and their agents think are necessary in this Country. But is time they know they don't have monopoly of ideas.#VotePunguzaMizigo .

Ben Talam, a netizen, noted, “What happened to the earlier handshake tours that were to happen? or it’s now metamorphosized to bbi tours?’
“Why should they popularise it if it’s people’s proposals? Dynasties must fall,” Collins Otieno stated.
