Even as the country’s anxiety over the DNA results for Kakamega’s identical twins grows, a lot of questions are already being asked on the same. What if the results prove they are indeed blood twins? what if it comes out that they are not related in any way?

These are just some of the questions Kenyans are asking ahead of the official release of their DNA results. According to one of the mothers, Ms. Onyango, the woman who has been living with Melon in Kakamega (one of the ‘twins’) they have already received information from their family lawyer that the DNA results are ready for release.

“We have received communication from the doctors in Nairobi to travel and receive the results for the DNA tests. The girls are excited about the news and have travelled to Eldoret town to do shopping before we set off to Nairobi,” said Ms. Onyango on Monday.

The release of results will bring to an end the long anxiety among the two families of the ‘twins’ and Kenyans at large who are eager to know what really transpired at the Kakamega County Referal Hospital during their birth.

The twins’ story came into the public limelight in April 2018 when Sharon Mathias, the one who has been raised by Angeline Omina, a resident of Kangemi in Nairobi, joined Shikoti Girls Secondary school in Kakamega county where Melon her look-alike sister is also schooling.

Their meeting, which excited most Kenyans and in particular Furfural village in Likuyani Constituency, came 19 years after their mothers left Kakamega Provincial General Hospital, now Kakamega Teaching and Referral Hospital, with their babies Rosemary with Melon and Melvis, and Sharon with Angeline.

The two, Angeline and Sharon, who were initially thought to be twins were born on August 15, 1999, while Melon (the other twin) was said to have been born two days later after Angeline and Sharon.

With that said, it now remains to be seen what will follow after the much-publicized DNA results are out any time from now.  The twins who are already going on with their studies in two secondary schools in the region are more than eager to know the results as this will determine their fate.

Despite sharing a lot in common, the two girls should also be flexible on any result that will come out to avoid depressions and heartbreaks in case of a negative result. Just the same way fate brought them together, they should also expect the same fate to guide them through ‘life after results’.

Their parents have insisted that they are ready to raise the two girls together as a family even if the DNA results will prove that Sharon and Melon are indeed twins.

However, one of the parents, Angeline, who is Sharon’s mother admitted she was fearful about confronting the reality that Sharon may not be her daughter. she admitted that the possibilities were very high and couldn’t imagine living a life without Sharon.

“I love this child so much and I have worked hard to raise her. Even these odd jobs that I do, I do for her. If she asks me for something, I always struggle to give her,” Angeline told a local media house.

Angeline, who lives in Nairobi promised to re-locate to Kakamega and live with Rosemary as co-wives in a move aimed at raising the two daughters despite the DNA results. The two mothers are already separated from their husbands.

Another question lingering in the minds of many is what will happen to the lone twin, Melvis who was considered a twin sister to Sharon. For instance, if the DNA results prove that the two, Sharon and Melon are indeed twins will Melvis continue to enjoy the privileges she had been enjoying from Sharon’s family? where is her real family? Will she move out of the family looking for them?

It is only a matter of time before all these questions are put to rest and spelling new lives for the three girls in the circle.
