Mr. Odinga spoke at a brief address to supporters at the Burma Market in Nairobi. He was on his way to the home of former Assistant Minister Oduya Oprong who passed on Monday.

“Don’t be swayed or derailed by politics of 2022. There are things we must fix before 2022. If we don’t stand up now, things are going to get worse,” Mr. Odinga said at Burma Market.

President Uhuru has kept the country guessing on his preferred candidate in 2022, sending mixed signals every time he is seen in public with his DP or his political nemesis turned friend and ‘brother’ Raila.

The President is serving his second and final term but some quarters feel that he is “too young to retire”

Last month, Raila also told Kenyans to brace for massive changes ahead of the 2022 general election and warned that those who try to resist it will be consumed by a raging tide. The ODM party leader had made the remarks at the homecoming party for Nyatike MP Tom Odege described the change as ‘very fundamental’ to Kenyans.

The ODM leader was referring to the pending referendum which he assured Kenyans that some changes to the constitution are imminent. Raila and his opposition team have been advocating for a change in the constitution through a referendum that will ensure a whole inclusive government.

This move has been fiercely opposed by Ruto’s side which thinks that Raila and his friends want to create themselves extra positions in government to suit their needs in case they fail in elections.

President Uhuru has however distanced himself from the referendum talks with many observing that the president is in support of it owing to the fact that he us still young to retire in 2022 after his term expires.
