Ruto Mourns Fallen Oprong Who Died With a Bullet in His Head

The death of former Amagoro MP Fredrick Oduya Oprong continues to draw mixed reactions among a number of National Leaders who continue to send condolence messages to family and friends of the fallen Veteran.

The Latest to mourn the loss of Oprong is Deputy President William Ruto who has condoled with family and friends of the late Oprong.

Ruto has remembered Oprong for his committment in Championing for the rights and welfare of workers.

The DP said that Oprong was instrumental in shaping policy and advancing the Country’s growth.

“Condolences to the family and friends of Fredrick Oduya Oprong, a former assistant minister. He was a committed champion of workers’ rights and advocated their welfare,” Said Ruto.

“Mzee Oprong was diligent in his duties and played a significant role in shaping policy and advancing the country’s growth in its infancy. May his soul Rest In Peace,” He added.

Oprong took his last breath at the Kenyatta Hospital on Sunday, May 26th with his death confirmed by his son Isaac Oprong.

It will be remembered that in 1994, Oprong nearly lost his life when he was shot by unknown gunmen in Nairobi.

The now fallen veteran has been living with a bullet lodged in his head after doctors advised against removing it since it was so dangerous.

Mr. Oprong has two bullets fired into his head as he entered into his home in Mariakani Estate.

One bullet was later removed but doctors said extracting the other one would be fatal.

Yesterday saw former Prime Minister Raila Odinga join Oprong’s family as he condoled with them.

On his Part, Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula said that the late Oprong will be remembered for the major role he played in unifying the Iteso and the Luhyia Community.

“It’s with deep sorrow and regret to learn of the passing on of Mzee Oduya Oprong, former mp Busia North now Teso North & South, Gusia County. He will be remembered for his unifying role between the Iteso and Luhya neighbours. RIP,” Said Wetangula.
