Kibra’s Illegal Connections Leave Hundreds In the Cold

Police are piecing up information to determine the cause of a Kibra fire that gutted homes in the night, leaving hundreds in the cold.

The fire that is believed to have been sparked by an electrical fault razed down tens of homes in the sprawling Nairobi slum, causing a near-humanitarian situation.

Kibra Sub-County Police commander, Mr Michael Muchiri, conformed the incident, saying they were lucky no fatal casualties were reported.

“We thank God we have no death or any injuries but the residents have lost everything they had. The fire has burnt down over 2 acres of land. That in Kibera is a space occupied by more than 500 houses,” said Muchiri.

The huge inferno took the intervention of at least seven fire engines to put out, an exercise that took hours to accomplish.

“We are still investigating the cause of the incident, but most of these fires are caused by illegal connections of electricity, which are very common in Kibera,” said the Officer Muchiri
