Mixed Reactions as Billionaire Buzeki Ditches Ruto

DP Ruto suffers another blow as business mogul Buzeki, one of his key allies in the Rift Valley abandons him

Has billionaire business Mogul and Uasin Gishu politician Zedekiah Bundotich Kiprotich committed political suicide? The politician announced on Thursday, that he was ditching DP William Ruto’s team to chart his own political future.

“The time has come for me to consider other alternatives. I’m in neither the Kieleweke group nor the Tanga Tanga team,” Mr Bundotich, who is looking to succeed Mr Mandago in 2022, said Thursday.

Some people have suggested that Buzeki, who is aiming to be Uasin Gishu governor in 2022, could come to regret his decision because there is no way you can oppose Ruto in his own backyard.

Even though he denied joining the Kieleweke team, pictures doing rounds on social media show him with MPs Joshua Kuttuny and Silas Tiren, Some of Ruto’s sworn enemies.

“We just met for lunch and to discuss socio-economic interests of the community and the challenges Rift Valley farmers are facing.” Buzeki defended himself over the meeting.

There have already been suggestions that the businessman could be interested in Isaac Rutto’s Mashinani Party. The former Bomet governor was also present in the meeting.

DP Ruto is losing Rift Valley politicians at a very high rate. Buzeki joins a pool of other influential leaders among them Governors Alex Tolgos and Paul Chepkwony of Kericho county.

As the rate for 2022 starts to unfold, there have been suggestions that Baringo Senator Gideon Moi is trying to create a formidable team to take on Ruto in 2022. Could Mashinani Party be part of his plans?

Ruto’s enemies should be smiling.
