There is a big conversation going around among millennials about the expensive upfront cost of first dates. Some daters see a first outing as an investment that barely has any return.

If you take a bunch of people on first dates and it doesn’t lead to a second date, you could begin to have resentment towards the entire act of taking someone out. But it doesn’t have to be so pricey to get to know someone. I am not an advocate for not taking people out for dates. I believe that the root of a good date is more about thoughtfulness more than it is about a money spend.

This is much more of a sunny one, but it works. Nairobi has free/affordable live music outdoor festivals that you can take a prospective boo to. Get a gauge of the type of music they like, and then visit them.

This one is way too easy to be ignored. Get a bottle of wine, some deli sandwiches, fruit and a blanket and you are picnic ready! You can even bring a couple card games to enjoy while you’re enjoying your food, conversation and snacks. This date will allow you to get to know a new person without the pressure of a dinner bill or the loud music of a club.
