Siaya County has been experiencing heavy rains which have resulted in flooding in some villages, including those in Ukwala.
Consequently, farming and transport operations have stopped as locals move to upper regions, some of whom have been displaced after their houses were swept away by the waters.
It is a sad day for Siaya residents as technicians from national power supplier, the Kenya Power and Lighting Company Limited (KPLC) are investigating an incident where an elderly woman was electrocuted to death.
The 77 was reportedly electrocuted while inside her house in Liganwa village, Alego Usonga sub county on Monday night. According to her son Junior Oluoch, the deceased suffered an electric shock at a time when the power was going on and off, resulting in a surge that took her life.
He suspected that the surge occurred from the heavy rainfall that was pounding that village at the time. The incident was confirmed by area County Commissioner Michael Ole Tialal who said that KPLC experts are investigating the incident.
The body of the deceased was moved to the BAMA hospital mortuary in Siaya Town pending burial.
