Voter turnout remain a major Concern as Jubilee, KANU face off in Wajir West

The long awaited day is finally here, and President Uhuru Kenyatta-led Jubilee Party finally faces Gideon Moi-led KANU in Wajir West Constituency by-election.

Jubilee’s candidate Ahmed Kolosh Mohamed and Kanu’s Ibrahim Mohamud are battling out for the seat that fell vacant after the Supreme Court nullified Kolosh’s victory in the 2017 polls.

The polling stations were opened at 6 am and shall remain open until 5.00pm.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has promised to keep Kenyans updated about the ongoing process.

However, the Wafula Chebukati-led Electoral Commission says voter turnout is the only Concern.

It is however a two horse race since other candidates pulled out of the race. Raila Odinga-led ODM Party candidate Prof Yusuf Elmi was the first to pull out after negotiations and consultations between elders and the two parties, ODM and Jubilee.

Two more candidates later stepped down in favour of Jubilee candidate Ahmed Kolosh.

Deputy President William Ruto this afternoon when met Ali Noor Abdi (LPK) and Abbas Nunow (AGANO) who have also withdrawn from the Wajir West by-election.

The two are Labour Party of Kenya’s Ali Noor Abdi and Agano Party’s Abbas Nunow.
