Revealing Europe’s Ten Most Prolific Attacking Trios…

These numbers include league goals (from top ten European leagues) and Champions League/Europa League goals…

10) Bayern Munich – 44 (Lewandowski 29, Gnabry 8, James 7)
Bayern have scored 30 goals in eight Bundesliga games since they last lost in that competition in early February; Robert Lewandowski alone has scored nine goals in that spell. And yet in 180 minutes against Liverpool, the only player who scored for Bayern Munich was one Job Joel Andre Matip.

9) Tottenham – 44 (Kane 22, Son 13, Moura 9)
Fifth last season (with Christian Eriksen in place of Lucas Moura) becomes ninth so far this season as Tottenham have (relatively) struggled for goals. They now face Manchester City on the back of a lean streak of just seven goals in seven games. Harry Kane has actually gone two full Premier League games without a goal for the first time since October. Eek.

8) Napoli – 45 (Milik 18, Mertens 14, Insigne 13)
The combination of those goalscoring exploits and Arsenal’s massive defensive vulnerability makes Thursday nights intriguing right now. But the good news for Arsenal fans is that Napoli are also vulnerable in defence, with no clean sheets in their last six games.

7) Genk – 46 (Samatta 23, Trossard 14, Malinovskyi 9)
Yes, Genk, who are on course to be Belgian champions for the first time since 2011 under former Coventry midfielder Philippe Clement. Tanzanian striker Mbwana Samatta has been a revelation, earning him links to Leicester City.

6) Sevilla – 46 (Ben Yedder 24, Sarabia 13, Silva 9)
That Sevilla trail only Barcelona and Real Madrid in terms of goals in La Liga this season owes much to the unexpected goalscoring exploits of midfielder Pablo Sarabia, who is likely to join Roma for a bargain £15m this summer. Wissam Ben Yedder has also had an extraordinary season, though Andre Silva’s form has dropped off a cliff; he will be heading back to Milan this summer.

5) Eintracht Frankfurt – 53 (Jovic 24, Haller 19, Rebic 10)
On course for their first Champions League/European Cup appearance since reaching the actual final in 1960, Eintracht Frankfurt will face Benfica in the Europa League this week after ousting Inter Milan from the competition thanks to a goal from Luka Jovic, who just happens to be on loan from the Portuguese club. Sexy. One thing is for certain – he will be at neither club next season as pretty much every club in Europe wants the 21-year-old striker.

4) Manchester City – 55 (Aguero 24, Sterling 18, Sane 13)
Joining them on double figures is Gabriel Jesus, who has scored ten Premier League and Champions League goals despite having a pretty poor season. This Manchester City side has won 14 straight games and scored 38 goals along the way. Aguero alone has scored a goal every 70 minutes in Europe this season.

3) Liverpool – 55 (Salah 21, Mane 20, Firmino 14)
The difference between Liverpool and Manchester City is that the next man on the list is Xherdan Shaqiri with six goals, and he has apparently kicked Jurgen Klopp’s cat. Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino’s numbers have dropped off considerably (this trio topped this list in 2017/18), but the good news is that Sadio Mane has already matched his total from last season, though that does mean he is ripe to become a Real target.

2) PSG – 68 (Mbappe 31, Cavani 19, Neymar 18)
Just when you’re thinking ‘how did Man United beat this PSG side?’, you remember that both Edinson Cavani and Neymar were missing, leaving Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with only (if ‘only’ is ever the right word for him) Kylian Mbappe to deal with. The young Frenchman has scored a barely believable 27 goals in 25 Ligue Un games this season; Eric Choupo-Moting has not.

1) Barcelona – 72 (Messi 41, Suarez 20, Dembele 11)
Best of luck, Manchester United, though the good news is that Ousmane Dembele is not fit and Luis Suarez almost never scores in the Champions League. The bad news? Lionel Messi has already beaten his frankly pathetic 40-goal total from last season having scored ten goals in his last six games.
