How 79-year-old found his own means to getting title deed

With bureaucratic cut throats involved in acquiring Title Deeds, 79-year-old John Wagura Ikiki sought his own means.

Mr Ikiki is reported to have on March 14 2012 conspired to defraud the Kenya African Othaya Bus Union (Kaobu) of its land registered as Nyeri Municipality Block 11/26, by falsely registering it as his property.

Ikiki further forged the union’s certificate of lease, purporting it to be genuine, issued and signed by the then Land Registrar John Gichuki.

This however, is not something anyone should try at home as the 79-year-old has landed himself in court and may end up spending his remaining days behind bars.

Ikiki appeared before senior principal magistrate Philip Mutua on Tuesday and found guilty of three counts of conspiracy, forgery and obtaining land registration number by false pretence.

“Circumstances leading to the issuance of the title as well as signature appended by Gichuki as indicated were not genuine,” Mutua ruled.
