Man Utd Losing To Wolves Shows The THREE Players Ole Gunnar Must Offload

Manchester United lost to Wolves in the Premier League on Tuesday night, with the Red Devils slipping to a 2-1 defeat at Molineux.

Scott McTominay put the Red Devils ahead with a thumping drive in the 13th minute, before Diogo Jota levelled the scores.

As the game dragged on, Manchester United looked inferior to Nuno Espirito Santo’s side and Ashley Young saw red in the 57th minute.

Wolves then made them pay with a Chris Smalling own goal giving them a key three points and dealing United a major blow in their quest to finish in the top four.

For Solskjaer, it was another chastening night.

The United boss had seen his side slip to defeat against Wolves mere weeks previously in the FA Cup.

And three of his players let him down amid the heat of the battle at Molineux.

Young now appears to be past his best, despite the England international currently being the club’s No 1 right-back.

Reports have tipped United to land Crystal Palace powerhouse Aaron Wan-Bissaka when the transfer window reopens at the end of the campaign.

And last night’s poor showing from Young suggests Solskjaer should accelerate that transfer sooner, rather than later.

A second player who let United down was Fred.

It has been a torrid first season in England for the Brazil international, who arrived from Shakhtar Donetsk in a £52million deal last year.

Fred was one of the heroes when United put PSG to the sword in the Champions League last month.

But he was at fault for Wolves’ opening goal of the game last night and looks out of his depth at the highest level.

United fans were quick to mock Smalling and Phil Jones after the final whistle.

Smalling, after all, scored the own-goal that allowed Wolves to inflict a second defeat of the campaign on United from three head to head encounters.

But Jones is the real villain.

The England international, unlike Smalling, has never looked likely to be a United hit – a respectable first campaign aside.

United, bafflingly, gave him a new contract earlier in the season.

And the very fact that the Red Devils are eyeing a marquee centre-back this summer – Raphael Varane and Kalidou Koulibaly are in their sights – shows Jones is not up to scratch.
