A debate on the purpose of internship and whether Kenyan firms should pay stipends to interns or not has gripped the social media for days now.
Established Entrepreneurs such as David Ndii and Nailab chief executive Sam Gichuru shared perspectives in the debate argue that internships should be all about learning work-related skills as opposed to earning a stipend. Therefore internships should not be paid for.
David Ndii goes ahead to hint that it is actually the learners who should pay and not the firms paying learners who are acquiring skills.
Ndii argues that if paid internship is mandated, then the firms that cannot pay interns will not admit them hence chances lost.
