As Miguna’s return draws near, political pundits are waiting with a baited breath for an impending face off in the political arena as the fiery lawyer makes a second attempt to return home in April, after almost a year in forceful exile.
The self proclaimed revolutionary,in a Facebook post few days ago gave a hint of what Kenyan authorities should expect and vowed to come home,by any means and that nothing will stop him this time round.
”No amount of coercive acts, intimidation, threats, bribery, physical assault or torture will scare me. Im coming home in April,” reads a post on his Facebook wall.
At the time of his forceful exile,Miguna Miguna had presided over HE Raila Odinga’s contentious January 30th 2018 swearing in, which split the country right in the middle.’The General’ as he is popularly known, dared authorities to arrest and charge him with treason, something which did not go well with the government at that time, leading to his incommunicado detention and subsequent deportation to Canada.
However,a year later, country’s politics dynamically have drastically changed. There are new political relationships and formations.NASA,the political outfit Dr Miguna was part of,as a leader of the moribund NRM Kenya ,does not exist as actively as it was before the Handshake.
HE Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta have closed their political differences, something that has put the two most influential politicians in the country under a constant attack by Miguna Miguna. He also has another new book ‘Treason’ under his belt,an account of events leading to Raila Odinga’s oath and the things that followed after.
Upon his return in April,it is widely expected that the lawyer will be a harsh critic of the government and ODM leader Raila Odinga. In a country where opposition politics has always revolved around the scion of Jaramogi,it would be interesting to watch if a new player will emerge and take up the role,as effectively as Raila Odinga has over the years.
But again, all these could be just words. The government is adamant Miguna Miguna does not have the required documentation to return to his country of birth and will not allow him into the country without right documentation. The stage is already set for another face off and Kenyans wait patiently to see if Miguna will finally be allowed back home.
