Alfred Mutua commits to enhancing access to justice for Machakos residents

Machakos County Governor Alfred Mutua has committed to working closely with the Judiciary in the spirit to enhance access to justice for his people.

This comes after his meeting earlier today with  the Judiciary taskforce on Court Annexed Mediation (CAM).

The team led by Hon. Justice Mr. R. Mwongo & Machakos Presiding Judge Hon. Justice Mr. G. V. Odunga shared the milestones that have been undertaken so far as part of giving effect to Article 159 of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010 on alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.

Alfred Mutua noted that they have  agreed to work together in among others; creating awareness to the people, improving Judicial infrastructure, training of local mediators to ensure their  people move from the tedious, costly and often antagonistic litigation to alternative methods of dispute resolution.

To this regard, the governor agreed to their request of working together to set-up the Machakos Mediation Centre as the first such centre in the Counties.

“I am a strong believer that accelerated dispute resolution is essential for economic development.” He said

Mutua also added that for Judicial officers to do their work as per societal expectations,  they must also work in a conducive environment with quality facilities for their personal use, as well as that of other Court users.

He assured that his government will work closely with the Judiciary in Machakos to ensure improved work environment for Judicial officers and Court users, to enhance access to justice.
