Kenyans Wants Associated Press Pull Down Racist Headline On Ethiopian Plane Crash

Kenyans fell that they have been discriminated after a headline by the Associated Press that only recognized other races that died in the Ethiopian Plane crash leaving out Africans.

They now want the Tweet pulled down.

Kenya suffered the highest casualties in the Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 plane crash on Sunday. However , theleading American media outlet didn’t consider the grim statistics as a major news highlight.

Instead AP only mentioned Canadians, Chinese, Americans, Italians, Indians, French, British, Egyptians casualties as it broke news of the plane crash on Sunday.

That tweet did not go down well with Twitterati who called out AP for the lack of proportional representation of everyone who was on board.

AP is yet to delete the tweet or apologise.

Here are some of the reactions on Twitter.

Kenyans and Ethiopians….we’re not human beings, right?

@AP … and more than 60 Africans, most from Kenya. Let’s be aware of our Western conscious and unconscious biases when covering Africa please. #ET302— zain verjee (@Zain_Verjee) March 11, 2019

No kidding! This tweet from AP was not needed. My personal sympathies don’t vary by ethnicity (or race). If this was a detailed article mentioning the victims m, all of them, that’d be different. I’m American and can’t understand how society here is reverting like it is :(— Christina D. (@PiditaChristina) March 10, 2019
