“Our people came together to fight against colonialism as one… They asked themselves “for how long are we going to be treated as dogs?” and that is when people united to defeat colonialism. Afterwords, the animal called ethnicity moved in”

These were the words of Raila Odinga during the #HandshakeAnniversary at the Serena Hotel on Saturday.

According to the former Prime Minister, tribalism marked the beginning of divisions and poor governance in the country.

He said that the ethnic cocoon is what brought about the 2007 post election violence and some Kenyans ending up at the Hague.

Raila: The ethnic cocoons took us to 2007 and that’s how our people ended up at ICC. We tried to form a local tribunal but others said it will be manipulated.
