A report released by the Consortium of Researchers on Governance on Friday, March 1, has ranked Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya as best performing county governor.
Oparanya scored 87% closely followed by Kirinyaga county boss Anne Waiguru who has 84%. Makueni boss Kivutha Kibwana came third having garnered 83% thus closing 80% mark.
Oparanya and Kivutha have in the past unveiled multi-million infrastructural projects such as hospitals, manufacturing plants and roads in their areas.
Nyandarua Governor Francis Kimemia, Kitui’s Charity Ngilu, Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi, Nderitu Mureithi (Laikipia), Okoth Obado (Migori), Alfred Mutua (Machakos) and James Ongwae (Kisii) were ranked among those who had 70%
Those among underperforming include Taita Taveta Granton Samboja, Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso, Kajiado’s Joseph Ole Lenku, Ferdinand Waititu (Kiambu), Cyprian Awiti (Homa Bay), Mutahi Kahiga (Nyeri), Cornel Rasanga (Siaya), and Kasaine
The researchers’ team leader, Charles Mc’Olonde listed delivery of services in each devolved unit, budgeting, public participation and governors’ job approval ratings.
