Rawlings sought to intervene after commuters were stuck in traffic for over an hour on the stretch of road.

According to local media, the traffic snarl-up was caused by motorists creating four lanes on a single lane road.

GhanaWeb reported that according to a close associate of the former president, he had on several occasions witnessed the indiscipline of drivers and in this case decided to “step out and direct traffic and bring a sense of orderliness”.

This is not the first time a prominent personality has directed traffic after being caught up in a gridlock.

A year ago in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago was forced to take charge after his officers tried in vain to open traffic for him.

The angry county boss alighted from his car and for more than an hour, controlled traffic at the Iten road- Highlands road junction as there were no traffic officers on the road at the time.
