Mauricio Pochettino drops hint on when Spurs will play in their new stadium

Tottenham Hotspur's new stadium is edging closer to completion

Some good news for Tottenham Hotspur fans in a week when their Premier League title hopes took a bashing.

After losing 2-1 to Burnley and a much-publicised bust-up between manager Mauricio Pochettino and referee Mike Dean, the Spurs boss then said it could be 10 years before the club lifted the title.

But it’s not all doom and gloom. Today Pochettino gave a positive update about the progress of the new Spurs Stadium after a meeting with club chairman Daniel Levy.

“Today I saw Daniel and he’s very positive, hopefully yes we can play before the end of the season,” admitted Pochettinohe said.

“Yes still I think it’s going to be tough but I think with Crystal Palace going through in the FA Cup and we changed the game and that makes us more positive to believe that we move before the end of the season.”

While the majority of construction work on the stadium has been completed, there still has to be testing of the safety system and a number of “soft launch” events before it can host a Premier League game. It is possible then that the first game at the stadium will be against Brighton & Hove Albion or Huddersfield Town.

The Brighton game may yet be moved depending how Brighton do in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup against Millwall.

Asked if he would be supporting Millwall against Brighton to improve the chances of playing in the new stadium sooner, Pochettino said laughed:  “I don’t know. I’m going to support all the possibilities that can make us play before the end of the season – of course I’m going to support the situations yes!”
