What took life of rugby hero Sidindi

The sudden death of Impala Saracens player Richard Sidindi on Monday threw the rugby fraternity into morning mood.

His death came as the country morns the death of legendary athlete Nyantika Mayioro who died on Sunday following his long battle with tuberculosis.

It was not immediately established the circumstances leading to his death.

However, according to a report made at Kilimani Police Station, Sidindi collapsed in the swimming pool at Impala Sports Club before he was rushed, while unconscious, to the Nairobi Women’s Hospital, where he was confirmed dead on arrival.

Police said investigations were on to establish if there was any foul play in the death of the young rugby hero. However, no foul play was majorly suspected.

A gym manager at the club is said to have alerted Impala Rugby Club director Wilfred Ollows of the incident before they both pulled Sidindi out of the pool and called an ambulance.

“The Kenya Rugby fraternity is saddened by the untimely demise of one of our own very own Richard Sidindi. We send our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time,’’ the Kenya Rugby Union said.

“Jadhah’’, as he was popularly known, started his club rugby with Kisumu RFC in 2005 after sitting for his KCSE exams at St.Mary’s Yala. He joined Impala Saracens in 2011. His last match for Impala was over the weekend. Sidindi leaves behind a wife and one daughter.
