Starehe Member of Parliament Jaguar has today taken a stand in regard to the ongoing conversation of the proposal to hike University School Fees.

The proposal to increase fees was arrived at at a meeting by vice-chancellors from public universities, who claimed that expenses had gone up and more money was needed to effectively run the colleges.

Last week, Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed defended the proposed fee hike in public universities saying it would be done in phases.

She also issued a directive to have Higher Education Loans Board (Helb) loan defaulters arrested and prosecuted.

The Starehe MP, Jaguar however says that students are already facing challenges with raising the current fee charges and therefore the hike will only frustrate them more.

Jaguar also questioned the motive behind hiking the fee to facilitate University operations.

The vocal MP insists that the leaders should work towards empowering the youth and not frustrating them.

Is hiking school fees for university students the way to raise funds to facilitate operations for public universities? If raising the current 16k is a hustle for students, what happens if it is increased?Let us work towards empowering our youth and not vice versa.@AMB_A_Mohammed— Hon.
