Do you leap out of bed, bright-eyed and ready to start your day, no matter how little  sleep you’ve had?

Or are you famed for being in a foul mood from the moment you wake either until midday or until your third coffee kicks in (whichever happens first)?

If the latter applies to you, the reason may be quite simple.

It could all be down to the position you sleep in, specifically if you tend to sleep on your side.

In a study they carried out, 1021 participants ranging from 18 to 77 years-old were quizzed on their sleeping habits.

What the study found was that many of volunteers revealed their preferred sleep position was curled up on their side, saying they found it both comfortable and comforting.

At least, until they woke up and had to face their day.

Of this number, a whopping 40 per cent then admitted that they did not sleep well at all.

So, ultimately not that comforting…

As for the “best” position to sleep in, this was found to be with back sleepers who were more likely to reap the benefits of a good night’s sleep.
