Does she deserve this? Woman in court for stabbing rapist

A 25-year-old woman, Gift Daniel, appeared in an Ebute Meta Magistrate Court in Lagos on Thursday for allegedly stabbing a man to death. The deceased, identified as Taofeek Olumoro, 52, a cleric, was alleged to have met his fate while trying to rape the woman. Daniel, who resides at No. 1, Alhaji Aleke St., Bariga, Lagos is facing a charge of murder to which she pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Insp. Oladele Adebayo said the defendant had used a kitchen knife to stab the deceased. “The defendant was lured into the deceased’s room where he tried to forcefully have sexual intercourse with her and in her defence she picked a knife and stabbed him fatally on his chest,” he stated.

The magistrate, Mrs A. Kusanu, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties each in like sum and adjourned the case to March 27 for the DPP’s advice. (NAN)

It would be recalled that the Police, charged a 21- year-old man, Azeez Adejumobi, before an Ebute-Metta Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting at Oyingbo for allegedly stabbing his friend, Saheed Ibitoye, to death. It was gathered that the defendant was alleged to have stabbed the deceased on his left hand after an argument ensued between them.

Adejumobi, who resides at 4, Ajegunle Street, Onipanu, Ilupeju, is facing a count charge of murder. The Prosecutor, Inspector Gbemileke Agoi, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offence on September 24 at 9p.m., along Abidogun Street, at Onipanu, in Ilupeju area of Lagos.

According to Agoi, the duo got into a heated argument and in the process, the deceased picked up a cutlass but Adejumobi was quick to stab him on his left hand. The offence, Agoi said, is punishable under section 221 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, . However, Magistrate, Mrs. M. O. Olajuwon declined to remand the defendant, while turning down the murder charge levelled against him.
