Woman defiled over bank robbery in Uganda

The Development Finance Company of Uganda Bank (DFCU) was on Monday stormed by four armed robbers who ended up sexually assaulted one of the staff.

The men, armed with AK 47 rifles, assaulted the bank’s staff in demand of keys to the safe. There were three staff left at the bank that 7pm in the evening, who were winding up the day’s business.

Having not succeeded in getting the staff to open the safe, the robbers are then reported to have stormed the CCTV control room at 10:20pm. They disconnected the cameras and made off with the monitor and central processing unit used to store CCTV footage.

They also took off with one of the staff’s Toyota Vitz, which police say they abandoned in Busega area and vanished.

Detectives suspect that two guards deployed by security service provider, Securex, were part of the robbery plan.

The employee who was reportedly raped has since been admitted at Norvik Hospital in Kampala, while the bank’s management issued a statement informing customers to use other branches of the bank as the affected one will not be operating.
