Nairobi City County Government takes education seriously and Sonko’s government has several initiatives that place them at the top in the education sector.
Some of the initiatives include free early childhood education, free milk in our ECDE centres, scholarship scheme that pays full fees for hundreds of secondary school students among others
Sonko assured his people that the county government has invested, and will continue to invest, a lot in education.
The Governor has been supportive and committed to full service of his people by ensuring that needy students get bursaries that enables them to remain in school despite challenges.
Sonko renewed his commitment after he shared the highlights of the 6th Annual Mathematics Contest at State House Girls.
The Governor termed it as an important event that seeks to promote maths as an academic subject, and cultivate lifelong interest in problem-solving.
According to Sonko, the choice of State House Girls as the host for this contest is appropriate, because it is one of the top schools in Nairobi County.
“‘Stato’ has been an academic giant for years and also stood out as a beacon of discipline where young ladies are natured and prepared for the future.” he said in his post
Last year, Sonko’s administration released bursary forms to all 85 Nairobi County MCAs, each Ward has been allocated bursaries worth Sh3.4m.
Busaries are one of the ways in which many students get the opportunity to go to school as some go through hardships and payment of fees is at times a big challenge.
Sonko has been one of the governors who frequently gives updates concerning busaries and this clearly shows his efforts in prioritizing education.
