Here is the excuse Arsenal boss provided after denying Ozil a start

After again starting on the bench this time against Manchester United, Arsenal manager Unai Emery gave very little away when asked why he chose to start Mesut Ozil on the bench.

The former Real Madrid midfielder started on the bench for the second successive game after failing to start the 2-0 win over Chelsea. Ozil came on for Alex Iwoi in the 64th minute and showed flashes of brilliance but Man United held on for a 3-1 win courtesy of goals from Alexis Sanchez, Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial while the lone Gunners goal came from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Speaking in a post-match press conference after the defeat to Manchester United, Emery was asked why he started Ozil on the bench and simply answered, “He played.” When pressed why he didn’t start the German, Emery gave very little away, “Because also I think I can play other players.”
