Boost for Chelsea as target is dropped from match-day squad

Chelsea have been handed a major transfer boost as AC Milan manager Gennaro Gattuso dropped Gonzalo Higuain from the squad that is set to take on Genoa in a Serie A clash on Monday 21st January citing that the striker is “not ready”.

Higuain is reportedly close to moving to Chelsea on loan from his parent club Juventus, hence cutting his season-long deal with AC Milan. Milan are unwilling to release the striker as they are looking to land his replacement who is rumored to be Krzysztof Piatek. Higuain did not start Milan’s last game against Juventus in the Supercoppa Italiana but came off the bench in the second half.

Gattuso lamented that the transfer rumors have affected Higuain’s mentality and that of the team, “I accept his decision. Surely he could have done more and maybe we could have helped him fit in better. Right now we have to work with professionalism and determination, all these rumors have not helped us lately and we have to look ahead.

“I am more worried about how to transmit calmness to the players and how to field the best team. Tomorrow [Monday] we will be without four players and I am a bit worried. We have to put it aside and play with enthusiasm.”
