What Manchester United really think of Liverpool and Man City title race

As Liverpool and Manchester City form two of what is currently a three-horse title race, Manchester United supporters are facing their biggest nightmare.

For plenty of the Old Trafford faithful, the choice between which club they would rather see lift the Premier League in May is akin to asking which finger they would like to lose.

Yet one United fan has spelt out perfectly which digit he would prefer to see discarded – admitting he will be supporting City tonight.

Speaking to the Times, United We Stand editor Anthony Shaw details how it is ‘difficult to accept’ how their two greatest rivals will battle it out in the biggest game of the season so far.

“Watching Liverpool and Manchester City fight it out for the title is a dreaded scenario for any Manchester United fan,” Shaw said. “We were hoping Spurs might throw a spanner in the works, but I think it’s a two-horse race.

“It’s not a nice choice to make, but if United fans had to choose between the two for who they most want to win the league, most would prefer it to be City. That’s mainly because they are not close to United in terms of league titles, whereas Liverpool are.

“There’s also the fact that City are probably a smaller club and some consider them a way behind United in terms of size and trophies won.

“Given how long Liverpool have gone without winning the league, it would be a big monkey off their back if they won it, but with City it’s just normal for them to win things at the moment due to the amount of investment.

“I will watch the game tonight. It’s difficult to accept that United aren’t involved in the biggest game of the Premier League season, but that is how it is. I hope that City prevail, but I definitely won’t be cheering if they score a goal.

“I would never do that.”
