Mauricio Pochettino has had his say on the Jose Mourinho sacking

Could Mauricio Pochettino swap Spurs for United?

The Mauricio Pochettino to Manchester United rumours are back with a bang following the club’s decision to send Jose Mourinho packing on Tuesday morning.

Pochettino has long been linked with a switch to Old Trafford, and the Tottenham boss is being backed by fans and pundits alike to now go on and become the next Man Utd manager, much to the sudden panic of Spurs supporters.

Now, the man himself has reacted to Mourinho’s sacking, and – sort of – addressed rumours that he’s the man to replace the Portuguese coach.

“First of all I want to send my best wishes to him,“ Pochettino said in his press conference ahead of Spurs’ League Cup clash against rivals Arsenal (via football.london).

“I feel so sorry because you know very well I have a good relationship with him. He’s a very good friend. It’s sad news what happened to him. It’s not my business what happened at another club. I only want to send my best wishes to Jose.”

As for speculation linking Pochettino with the Red Devils hotseat:

“There are a lot of rumours about my position as manager at Tottenham. I cannot answer this type of question.

“The business you know very well, a lot of rumours happen. I’m so focused in trying to deliver my best in this football club.”

Spurs fans will take that to be positive news, for now anyway.

The Argentine is currently drifting in the market – now 16/1 – but with United set to appoint a short-term replacement until the end of the season, they could well attempt to lure him over in the summer months.
