‘We leave everything to God as everything hidden before the sun will surely come out’ that was the message from the family of slain Kinoo Catholic Priest John Njoroge.

The late Father Njoroge who was shot dead by unknown hitmen in Kinoo last week as laid to rest on Monday at an emotional send-off at the St Mary’s Msongari cemetery.was the priest in charge of St Peter Catholic Church, Kinoo parish.

Father Michael Karanja said police has taken over the matter and investigations into his death are ongoing. “We are affected as a church because it takes more than 10 years to produce a priest. It is even more sad that he was killed in his life of duty. Losing one priest is like losing an entire population because once you kill the shepherd the sheep will scatter, ” Karanja said.

Fr Njoroge reportedly taking the previous day’s offerings to the bank when the gun-toting gangsters blocked his way, shot him and took off with the cash. Even though the suspects stole the money, most people believe the hit had nothing to do with the cash and the gunmen were just after his life.

The deceased, who had served at Kinoo since June this year, is believed to have been a no nonsense priest who did not condone corruption. He was at loggerheads with some corrupt church insiders whom he castigated for being led by selfishness rather than the passion to serve the Lord.

Could this be the reason why he was killed?  No arrests have been made yet.
