It is only day one of the Matatu CBD ban and over 20 saccos have been reported to have moved to court to oppose the directive issued by the Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.
This ban has faced opposition from matatu drivers, public transport users as well as some of the political leaders.
The concerned citizenry coalition has issued a press release and called upon the Nairobi governor Mike Sonko to lift the ban.
In their statement, the coalition has issued their recommendations and went further to ask the governor to go back to the drawing board in order to come up with a lasting solution.
“Today hard working Nairobi and we forced to walk to work from various designated drop off points as a result of a directive issued by the governor of Nairobi city county.
Banning PSV from accessing the CBD subjecting the same people hen governs to frustration and mental anguish” reads statement in part
Some of the recommendations given by the coalition include;
Develop an alternative efficient means from designated points into CBD
Develop walk paths for pedestrians and cycling paths
Boost security in and along drop off points
Erect proper shades in the drop off points to cover people from.rain and the hot sun
In their opinion, the concerned citizenry coalition say that the directive was rushed and not well thought of so they urge the governor to lift the ban and go back to the drawing board on how to solve the traffic mess within the city.
