Is Ruto’s development record a turning point in Nyanza Region? 

Deputy President William Ruto was welcomed with song and dance when he visited the Nyanza region of Migori on Monday 5th November leaving many people analyzing the effects of this visit especially after the residents welcomed him and urged him to promote development across the region and county.

He was welcomed by embattled Migori Governor Okoth Obado and several local leaders. The Deputy President insisted that the Jubilee administration, which has improved relationship with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) will initiate development projects in the opposition stronghold. This follows the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga on March 9 this year,

Speaking after his arrival in Migori, Ruto revealed that the government will make more development tours in Nyanza region pledging to return to Migori County in February next year to conduct a fundraiser for all the churches in the region. The Deputy President spent Sunday night at the Rusinga Lodge in Homa Bay County after spending the weekend in Western Kenya where he presided over several public functions.

“We want to build one united country without political or tribal bias,” Mr Ruto stated when he visited the Maranatha Church Assembly in Migori town.

The dominant party in the region Orange Democratic Movement [ODM] told its lawmakers from the region  to give Mr Ruto’s event a black out with only Kuria West MP Matthias Robi and his Kuria East counterpart Maisori Kitayana attending.

No doubt that William Ruto is enjoying the feel good spirit at the moment after the crowd and a couple of leaders assured him of all good will he needs to ensure that there is development in the region. In all, only time will tell.
