“My silence should not be taken for granted”- Uhuru Kenyatta

President Uhuru Kenyatta has lashed out at politicians that engage in unnecessary politicking instead of working for their electorates. Speaking in Nyeri, the president was particularly angered by the politicians from the Mount Kenya that have lately been on a ranting spree majorly due to the 2022 succession politics.

The Mount Kenya leaders have wanted the President to extend his term in office or rather confirm that he will still be the kingpin of the region.

In his response, the President has confirmed that he will go home when his term comes to an end and that he is not interested in any back door deals. The President first confirmed this through CNN’s Richard Quest.

“Your term of office ends in 2022. You have said the Constitution prevents you from standing again. Are you trying to go to try and seek to change the Constitution?” Quest asked President Kenyatta, who responded with an emphatic “No.”

“I am not interested,” added Kenyatta when asked whether he would heed the call of those asking him to remain in office.

On the calls for referendum that, the president cleared the air by saying that the referendum was meant to reduce the cost of living that has taken a heavy toll on many Kenyans and not to extend his stay in office.

“People are talking about Constitutional change not necessarily that they are desirous for the president to seek a third term but because of issues related to the cost of running this Constitution,” said Kenyatta.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has now said that he will have a say in who succeeds him in 2022. Speaking in Nyeri town after meeting the region’s MPs whom he scolded for not focusing on development but just politics, president Kenyatta said the MPs are in for a surprise if they think he will be quiet as he exits state house. According to the president, the region’s leaders have been engaging in needless politicking at the expense of serving the Kenyans who elected them.
