Sonko now renames controversial hospital after himself

The Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has renamed Pumwani Maternity Hospital as,  Sonko Pumwani Women’s Hospital & College of Nursing & Midwifery.

Mike Mbuvi made the announcement through his facebook and twitter handles, also saying that he is partnering with Aga Khan University & Nairobi West hospitals.

On Friday evening Sonko  said, “I’m happy to announce a new partnership deal with Agha Khan University Hospital & Nairobi West Hospital to transform Pumwani Maternity Hospital. Open link for more details of the upcoming new Sonko Pumwani Women’s Hospital & College of Nursing & Midwifery,”

This comes after the Governor recently visited the hospital and reportedly discovered that Pumwani lacks proper equipment and enough staff to cater to pregnant women.

Sonko apparently found 12 bodies of infants in boxes hidden inside one of the rooms at the hospital.

A section of Senators and members of the Nairobi County Assembly later threatened to impeach him over the saga that cast aspersions.

A day later, Sonko posted pictures of coolers being delivered to the facility, equipment that were allegedly a personal donation.

He also suspended county health officials and top officers in-charge of Pumwani Hospital accusing them of insubordination after they contradicted his reported discovery of 12 infant boxes hidden in boxes.

The Nairobi Governor has been under fire with some accusing him of resorting to public relations stunts instead of resolving the Pumwani crisis.
