Lionel Messi fans thank Nigeria for keeping Argentina alive with win over Iceland

Argentina were handed a huge boost in their chances to make it to the knockout stages as Nigeria bagged their first win of the FIFA World Cup 2018 against Iceland. Ahmed Musa struck a brilliant brace to help his side run away as comfortable winners. The win not only brought smiles to the Nigeria fans faces but also gave a huge respite to the Argentine fans who were hoping Iceland didn’t get the better of Nigeria after drawing against the Albiceleste.

Nigeria’s victory has left the Group D blown up open with only Croatia a certain qualifier, all other three teams remain in contention for the second spot. Argentina players and fans would have definitely watched the game, not only because it was of their group rivals but also because it held the key to their future in the competition. Lionel Messi, the Argentine talisman after failing to deliver in the first two games for his side will have a final shot at saving his country’s World Cup campaign. Only a win, with a good goal difference, will keep the La Albiceleste in the race for qualification. After their 3-0 humbling at the hands of Croatia on Saturday, a Nigeria win was nothing sort like a breath of fresh air for all Messi fans who took to Twitter to thank the Eagles for a favourable result.
